A heraldic-style institutional bookplate in black ink on ivory paper with a line border, featuring the coat-of-arms of Phillips Exeter Academy, which bears a lion rampant and is topped with a seated lion, and surrounded by elaborate mantling. Latin script above and below reads “Pia mente studeatur. In usum Academia Phillipsa Exoniensis,” which loosely translates to “Let him study with a pious mind in the use of the Academy of Phillips Exeter.” At the bottom is the text "Edwin Fay Rice Collection."
